What is TopFold?
TopFold is a native macOS menu bar app without a Dock icon. It pins one to five real folders to the top edge of your screen and makes them usable like a Finder window, without opening Finder.
How do I open and close the fold?
Move the pointer to the top of the screen and scroll down to open it. Scrolling up at the top edge closes it again, as does a click outside the fold. You can also turn on hover at the top edge with your own delay, click the menu bar icon to pin or close it, or drag a file to the top edge to open it. Escape closes Quick Look first and the fold second.
How many folders can I add?
One to five. Each folder gets its own column at equal width. You add, swap, remove, and reorder folders in Settings; the first launch without folders opens Settings for you.
Are files copied or moved?
Moved, the way Finder does it. A drop is never a copy, in either direction. Dragging a file to the top edge opens the fold and drops it into the folder under the pointer.
Which keys and menu items are there?
Click selects, double-click opens, dragging moves a file out. Space is Quick Look, the arrows move the selection, Return renames inline, ⌘↓ opens, ⌘⌫ moves to the trash. Right-click on a file gives you Open, Open With, Trash, Rename, Compress, Cut and Copy, Copy Pathname, Quick Look, Show in Finder, Share, and Services. Right-click on empty space gives you New Folder, Paste, Undo and Redo, Copy Pathname, Get Info, sorting, groups, and Import from iPhone.
Does TopFold store my files or sync them?
No. TopFold has no storage of its own, no cloud sync, and no account. It points at your local folders through security-scoped bookmarks and moves real files. A folder watcher keeps changes in the file system in sync live.
Is TopFold available on the App Store?
Not yet. TopFold is still being prepared and is not public on the Mac App Store. It will be a one-time purchase at €4.99, and this support page will grow as the app is released.
